Winter/ WEGENER Projects

Longboaring-wise, this winter has been pretty rad. I bought a Sector9 Super Shaka, one of the best boards I’ve ever owned, worked on downhilling a lot and got some sick slides down (Grabbing squandie, 1 foot stalefish, standup split 360, 11-19 foot checks) and got some nice flatlanding done as well. There’s been a lot of progression going on, especially with the groms in Cooroy. Noah, Jordan, Reilly, Jackson, Louis and Brody have all been ripping the Cooroy hills. There was a slide comp at the legendary Bertran Rd in Sunshine (vid coming soon!) which saw team rider Harry Turner walk away with best trick and Joe Cambell and I tie for most style. Everyone ripped hard, except for old mate who ended up calling the cops. I recently started seshing the nearby and AWESOME ‘Bosslyn’ (we can’t say the name for police purposes) with the rest of the Noosa Grom Squad, which I am now a proud member of. Bosslyn is a rad hill, with dozens of surrounding hills, steep straights and sketchy corners. A lot of progression has gone down there in the past two weeks, with two slide jams.
In Cooroy, the most popular hill is now the ‘Eagle Boys Run’ or Miva. Several rippers live on this road such as Jordy, Mitch and Reilly. It’s a chill run, ideal for chill trains or testing a board. It starts off with a slow straight into a fast heelside, then the fastest straight of the run. There you can take a sweet toeside onto a steep straight, or keep going uphill for a tiny bit then onto another steep straight into a tight, rough toeside. ITS RAD.

As far as surfing goes, we’ve started a web TV show call the Creation Plantation. See the first episode here- http://www.youtube.com/user/longboarder8899#p/u/1/ewLs0Ae2h2A

April 17th Sesh and Carvboarding

Yesterday, there was ment to be a slide jam in Sunshine so Khan and I went down to check it out. After skating the Sunshine bowl we found that the slide jam was cancelled due to overcast conditions. So we went surfing. fter surfing we decided to check if hill climb was good to skate. We ran into my downhiller friends from Gympie there, whaich was awesome because I haven't seen them in a while. We were a little too late and they were leaving, one of them was cool enough to take us to the top for a run.
Up top we ran into Lachlan, a guy I met about a week ago at hill climb. We raced for the first run and we were expecting to have to walk back up to the top but Lachlans dad was awesome enough to drive us up for a few runs. THANKS MICK!
At the Sunshine bowl, my Dad, our friend Toon, Khan and I were all skating. My family has known Pat Rafter for years, nd my dad ran into him at the bowl with a carveboard. He decided to lend us his carveboard which was SICK.
As soon as we got back to my place we took it out and hit some of the hills on my property. Since the carveboard has tyres we're able to ride grass and gravel.
It was a pretty awesome day.

Photos from The Making of Hybrid 35 Freestyle

I was digging around in my files today and i found some old photos from the red light shoot back when we made Hybrid 35 Freestyle, so I thought I would do a post on them. The story was; I was at a garage sale and I saw this red floodlight for $5, and imediately I thought of shooting at night with it on for a cool shot. I bought it. Later that week, my friend Khan was over and it had just got dark, so we decided to shoot. First we did a photo shoot, with my sister nailing some speed blurs.

Then we started shooting. Khan was behind the camera, with my sister getting some behind the scenes shots.

All in all, it was a pretty good night that turned out in some great footage. Don't forget to check out the footage you just read about in our video, Hybrid 35 Freestyle.

New Rider- Callum Tobutt

Callum is a stoked skater from Newcastle, NSW. He's in the process of getting sponsored by Original and should be, this guy's style will get on an Apex faster then Adam Colton can say 'spidermonkey'. We're stoked to have Callum on the team and look forward to more videos from him soon. Callum's currently riding a Bustin Sojourn, but has an Apex 37 in his sights.

Extending the Crew

Longboarding has finally become cool in our area, and man it took a while. Scooter riders are converting to Z-flexs or Globe longboards. A couple of them are even getting Evos and downhilling.
A bunch of people who would never have got on a skateboard in their dreams have started longboarding, mostly on Originals. I've seen a lot of people in Noosa on Apex 37s and Tan Tiens.
a couple of my friends at school have started longboarding and I have become their mentor. Once they get good they will start longboarding in out videos, so there will bw a way larger SSL crews soon.
Today my friend and soon-to-be SSL team rider Khan Gleeson had and awesome sesh on his OS Pintail 37 and my Apex 37 on some downhill runs in town at around 45kph. Khan is a beginner at longboarding but he's learning quick. He has the best footbrake I have ever seen and a really nice tuck, I've been improving my downhilling too so look forward to it in our next video.

The Making if Hybrid 35 Freestyle

Hybrid 35 Freestyle really was our most complex video yet, so I thought I would do a post on the making of it. We filmed a bit before my trip to New Caledonia, and when I got back I started editing what we had. I started on the intro, which took me around five hours to animate. Filming was set back thanks to the record-breaking rain that was hitting Queensland for near three months, but we git a few little sessions in. During the filming of this video we found a new really nice skate spot (which is first seen at 1:04), the location of this spot is Surf Skate Longboard only information. It is really smooth and it's just one long straight run, you can only find it if you search really hard. Trees and bushes hide it, we were lucky to stumble upon it on our way to another spot. Another reason this video took so long was we just kept learning tricks, slides and I was extending my manuals. We had to keep filming just to capture things I had learnt since the last filming session.
This video was our first full-length video in HD, thanks to me figuring out how to open HD files in our editing software.
A new filming system was invented too, from now on we will have someone doing a wide shot whilst someone else is doing a follow shot of the rider.

Overall, I am really happy with how the video turned out. It has broken 100 views in less thab a day so we can predict it is going to be big.
Thanks for reading the making of our video.

Hybrid 35 Freestyle is UP!!!

After a long wait, Hybrid 35 Freestyle is HERE!!! It features the crews progression in longboard freestyle as well as how well the hybrid takes into the next level. The intro took 5 hours, and thanks to rain we had a long period of time where the only place to skate was the carpark from 'It's Time to Seek the Lord'. That was the main reason the video took so long.
So click here to see some kickflips, stalefish grab slide, laybacks, rock-to-fakies and pretty long manuals.
